There are many types of journeys in life. Some are expected, while others take us by surprise. There are short journeys, long journeys, uneventful journeys, and action-packed journeys. Some journeys are anticipated with excitement, while others are dreaded. But all journeys have one thing in common, they take us from where we currently are to a new location.
I have been eagerly anticipating a new journey, and I am finally ready for departure. So I begin the journey of professional reflection via blogging. I've considered the journey for awhile. But as can be the case with literal trips, my figurative journey has been postponed due to a busy schedule, more urgent responsibilities, and quite frankly, the anxiety of embarking upon a adventure that could potentially highlight my shortcomings in a public environment. Nevertheless, I begin to move. Like any other journey, this is one that will take me from where I currently am to a new location. My hope is that the new location will be one of increased knowledge which I can in turn share with my colleagues. The overall desire is improved instruction for kids.
I understand that I will be my own audience as I begin my journey. In fact, I could be my only reader indefinitely. However, I am not discouraged by this. It actually provides a certain level of comfort as I attempt to learn my way. I view my blog posts as the photo album of my reflective process. My posts will provide a record of my journey and serve as reminders of where I have been. I intend to focus on the journey itself, the reflective process and the professional growth I will gain from such a process. It is an individual course that I travel, although in my dream world I will eventually gain readership from other reflective educators. Educators who want to connect with other educators such as myself. Those of us who want to ignite change. Inspire others. Make a difference.
I know my journey will teach me lessons that I cannot even begin to anticipate. The best journeys are those that provide unexpected adventures along the way. I expect no less from the journey at hand. I welcome the unexpected, enthusiastically await enlightenment, and hope for the moment when my learning will impact others in a positive way.
